Empty Your Downloads Folder

To help you jump start the new year, we’re posting thirty-one technology and business treats, one for each day of January.

You’re going to love today’s little tech task. It’s easy. It will free up  space on your hard drive, if you care about that sort of thing. Consider it early spring cleaning for your hard drive. It’s like taking out the recycling; the stuff that comes in, gets used, and is ready to now be disposed.

I know there are some who don’t have a clue about a downloads folder. That’s OK. It’s where what you download from the internet goes IF you don’t specify another place for it. For example, you want to bring a real hors d’oeuvre to your friend’s Super Bowl party. You download a recipe from your favorite recipe site. If you don’t tell it where to be saved, it will go to your downloads folder.

1. Find your downloads folder.

Mac users will find it on their dock or on their hard drive. It’s called Downloads.

PC users will find it in My Documents or somewhere on their C drive.

2. Select everything you can get rid of.

3. Drag it to Trash (Mac) or Recycle Bin (PC).

Voilá! You’re done!
